Emily and Alex got up before the sun with me one morning in May to beat the crowds and take advantage of the best possible light for their Boston Public Garden sunrise engagement session. We had the most wonderful morning light and the place practically to ourselves. It was well worth the 4am wake up call!

Their Proposal Story

Alex worked with their families and with Emily’s best friend who was in DC at the time to plan a wonderful surprise proposal for Emily. The two live in Southie, so Alex planned the proposal on Telegraph Hill. He even had Emily’s sister, who was in London, fly over to be there for the surprise! While Emily was out with her sisters for the day, Alex and her bestie prepped photos of the pair that led up the steps of Telegraph Hill. Alex and Emily had plans to meet her family for dinner that evening and he convinced her to stop on the way. He led her up the steps lined with photos of the two of them and then got down on one knee to pop the question. Of course, Emily said yes! Then the surprises continued, as they went to dinner and BOTH of their families were waiting to celebrate the happy news with them for the evening.

Their Sunrise Engagement Photos

Emily and Alex live and work in Boston, so taking their engagement photos in an iconic Boston location was a natural choice. The Boston Public Garden is a popular spot for tourists, so to avoid crowds and have the park to ourselves, we met 30 minutes after sunrise for their session. That also happens to be a great time in terms of light! We started on the bridge and then found a few spots to tuck into along the pond. Emily and Alex are so sweet together and they make each other laugh often. They were naturals in front of the camera! I can’t wait for their wedding at the Harvard Art Museum next month!

No matter the time of year or how many times I return, the Boston Public Garden never disappoints for engagement photos! That’s why you’ll find it high on my list of the Best Boston Engagement Session Locations!
