Wee Burn Beach Club Wedding - Tori + Justin

Their Love Story

Tori & Justin’s Wee Burn Beach Club wedding in September last year was a perfect mixture of classic New England with chic beach vibes. That mixture perfectly encapsulates them as well - two New Englanders who love the outdoors - as proved by their proposal story! Tori & Justin got engaged while hiking in Glacier National Park. Tori’s family has a cabin out near the park and she has grown up vacationing there and hiking in the park. It’s one of her favorite places and so, Justin decided to pop the question when they were on one of these family vacations. They were hiking Tori’s favorite trail and were near a nice lookout the trail offered when Justin let the family hike ahead and dropped to one knee to ask Tori to marry him. She was totally surprised and could not have been happier. Then her family figured out that they were no longer behind them on the trail and hiked back a bit to catch the good news and celebrate the proposal!

When I heard their story Scott and I had just recently hiked and camped in Glacier for the first time and I had fallen instantly in love with the park. It is a ruggedly beautiful place. We spent a week and wished we could have stayed for longer, so hearing about their hikes and swapping stories of favorite spots in the park made these two feel like old friends on our very first call. And over the course of the year leading up to their wedding, these two proved to be so in love and so laid back about their wedding - really staying focused on how excited they were and how happy they were to be able to celebrate with friends and family. They hosted an absolutely beautiful and full of special details and personal touches!

Getting Ready & First Look

Tori went to Lanphier Salon for their hair and makeup and then finished getting ready at her parent’s home, with her twin sister serving as her maid of honor and the sweetest group of ladies by her side. I started with photographs of Tori’s bridal details and of their stunning custom invitation suite. The suite was done by Louise York of Paper Trousseau with Justin designing the monogram! They toasted by the pool in adorable pjs before getting dressed in lovely gray bridesmaids gowns by Hayley Paige. Tori was helped into her Amsale dress her sister and mom in a room flooded with sunlight. Tori’s dad came in for a reveal moment and you really got to see the entire family full of love and joy - so incredibly happy for Tori and for the love she and Justin share. Justin got ready nearby with his groomsmen - dawning tailored navy suits and gray ties - and then came over to Tori’s parent’s home for their first look. It was such a sweet moment as Justin walked out to see Tori. They had a semi-private moment on the stone patio in the back of the house with their parents and all of the bridesmaids watching (and crying happy tears!) through the windows and back door! Then we invited everyone outside to join them for family photos before we headed to the beach!

Wee Burn Beach Club Portraits

It was a beautiful sunny day for their wedding with a nice warmth in the air that balanced with a cool breeze. A fall day in New England at its best! Tori and Justin love the beach and were thrilled to have their reception at the beach club, so we did their bridal party portraits and a few more couples portraits right on the beach at Wee Burn Beach Club before their ceremony. We also got to take a quick peek at the reception room as Flowers and Flowers by Adam was just finishing the hanging floral installations! Eek! So pretty!!

Talmadge Hill Community Church Ceremony

Talmidge Hill Community Church is Tori’s family church. She attended all while growing up and it is the cutest and smallest little church. It’s also quintessential New England! They packed it to the brim with loved ones for the ceremony. Tori looked stunning as she was walked down the aisle by her dad - both grinning from ear to ear. She and Justin wrote their own vows and had everyone in the place tearing up as they read them to each other. After they processed out they hopped into a getaway car decked out with a Just Married sign for a fun exit from the church. They waved to family and friends as they headed to the reception and were there to welcome them to their cocktail hour.

Wee Burn Beach Club Reception

Cocktail hour took place outside as the sun started to set over the water. Wee Burn has a large brick patio area adjacent to the beach with steps down to the sand so guests could take full advantage of the sunset and water views. They served passed apps and had a raw bar during cocktail hour that perfectly fit the beachside venue. Guests were then ushered into dinner and served their first course before toasts. Then after dinner Tori & Justin had their first dance and parent dances to open up the dance floor and cut their cake done by Sweet Lisa’s. The Eturnity Band kept the dance floor packed all night long and were super interactive - coming out onto the dance floor to sing and dance alongside guests. At the end of the night Tori and Justin left through a tunnel of sparklers as they said goodbye to their loved ones. It was a wonderful day from start to finish and every single person wore their hearts on their sleeves throughout the entire day. There were happy tears and belly laughs and smiles all day long. Congratulations you two! XO

The Commons 1854 Wedding - Topsfield, MA - Joyful Love

The Commons 1854 Topsfield MA wedding | Massachusetts wedding venue | Massachusetts wedding photography | couples portraits bride and groom

This past September I had the pleasure of second shooting a wedding at The Commons 1854 for the lovely and talented Katherine Brackman Photography. You can see her blog post of their full wedding here.

Getting Ready & First Look

The Commons 1854 is a historical venue with gorgeous gardens and a private outdoor ceremony space, as well as a beautiful reception space with large chandeliers and tall windows. I started with the groom as he got ready with his groomsmen at a hotel nearby. They were a chill group and popped some champagne after getting ready. There was also some singing of Ja Rule - the groom knew every word by heart (and so did I - hey college - lol)! Then we headed to The Commons 1854 for these two love birds to do their first look and take bridal party photos prior to the ceremony. They were both so excited to see each other and instantly smiled and relaxed into each other’s arms during their first look. Their chemistry was obvious and they were so very sweet together.

Formal Portraits

This group was laid back and fun and easy to work with. The little ring bearer was such a cutie! He was a mixture of bold and shy but he was all about being a big boy and posing with the guys. Too cute! I absolutely love the lace, the veil, the soft barely blush florals and the gently swept up hairstyle of the bride! And the guys blue suits and pale pink ties gave a pop of color while tying in perfectly to the soft color palette of the wedding. Also, placing the pocket square in a straight line showing just a bit from the pocket is a great way to give a sleek modern look to a classic menswear piece - love them!

I spent some time with the guys while Katherine captured the ladies and then we came together for some full bridal party group photos. One benefit of a second photographer is that while Katherine was with the ladies, I was with the gentlemen, so we could be efficient and spend less time taking portraits, while still capturing a wide diversity of photos and ensuring we got all of the combos they wanted. This is exactly how I work on wedding days with my second photographers as well. Another benefit is that during the full bridal party photos while Katherine was getting the wide shot of everyone head-on, I was able to be over on the side, capturing up close shots of the smiles and laughter and people connecting as they posed. I LOVE getting these shots as a second photographer and I ALWAYS as my second photographers to get these for me on a wedding day. They are some of the best moments to show true personalty and give the bridal photos a more intimate feel when the couple looks back at the day.

The ceremony took place in the private courtyard just off the side of the Commons. It was a quiet and beautiful spot that gave the ceremony an intimate feel. How adorable is the little ring bearer in his dapper suit and fancy shoes with bout to boot!?! They were so sweet together as they held hands and locked eyes and smiled for the hundredth time that day. It was still emotional and meaningful and a testament to how great that moment during the ceremony can be, even if you have already done a first look. And the joy and excitement of everyone throughout the ceremony was palpable with lots of smiles and laughter and an eruption of clapping as they kissed and recessed down the aisle. I was able to sneak inside and head to the reception room upstairs to grab a unique overhead of the scene through the large windows before heading back downstairs for their vows.

Artists For Humanity Epicenter - Botanical Boston Wedding Inspiration

Artists for humanity epicenter wedding green botanical wedding inspiration ivy feature wall modern glamour candles white floral tablescape with velvet textures

Artists For Humanity Epicenter is a gem of a Boston wedding venue! It’s industrial modern feel with white washed walls is a blank canvas for bringing your vision for your wedding day to life. This February I partnered with an incredible team of vendors, led by planner Carianne Gunn to capture a luxurious botanical inspired wedding shoot. She loves plants almost as much as she loves planning weddings, so she envisioned warming up the industrial space with rich textures and lots of greenery. Some of my favorite elements from the day included:

  • The stunning wall of climbing greenery that acted as a focal point and gave beautiful texture to the space. All of the florals were truly the stars of this shoot as they were the inspiration point for our planner and brought a feel of warmth and modern romance.

  • Velvet touches found in the invitation suite, the place card ribbons, and the bridesmaids dresses that look and feel luxurious.

  • Two different looks achieved simply by swapping out the tablecloth - you could use both at a wedding and alternate tables for a cohesive look that was also interesting and rich in texture.

  • The soft flawless hair and makeup with a pop of lip color that added a little glamour to our bride’s look.

  • Candles! Not every venue allows for open flames so you have to check on this way ahead of time, but I love having taper candles on the table to add elegance and drama. Plus, as the evening goes on and the lights dim, the candle light provides a warm glow that is super romantic.

  • The tone-on-tone texture of the grooms jacket. It was subtle but looked great in the light and gave him a pop of interest to match his bride.

  • Menu cards oriented horizontally to lay across the plates instead of the traditional vertical setup. This is a great example of how a small detail can be innovative and change the look from overdone to fresh and new.

  • Not one, but two feature cakes and cookies! The incorporation of florals on one cake and then the geode motif on the other brought the natural and botanical inspiration for this shoot into the desserts in a lovely way.

The phenomenal team of local creators who came together to make this inspiration session happen need a shoutout:
